Hey Hey Guys!!
After writing up this post it ran over 4 pages and I know you won’t read it all, so I’ll serialise it, in a few bitesize chunks so you can catch a blessing daily, and also it’ll get my post count up LOL!
People who know me personally, know I have a mouth on me, yes I’ve got jokes for days but I can also be extremely serious and inspirational (If I say so myself ;)) But I often wonder, and God OFTEN asks me what am I doing and sowing when I open my mouth?
This morning I was having a whiskers at my twitter timeline and reading different things, and I caught a revelation quicker than my timeline could refresh! This wasn’t a totally new revelation, because the more I pray for discernment I get it, much to the detriment of my emotional health lol, when your eyes are open, they can’t be closed as easily! But I guess, it was always lingering at the back of my mind. So I was seeing some tweets, and realised that despite the purpose of social networking sites, and especially micro-blogging sites like twitter, speaking your mind isn’t always beneficial to ones self.
Through His word, the Bible, God continually warns us and brings our attention to the power of words and our mouths. Literally, Proverbs especially is full of wisdom on how to use your mouth and words wisely:
- The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. (Proverbs 16:23).
- A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled (Proverbs 18:20).
- Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)
- Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. (Proverbs 21:23)
- Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” (Proverbs 17:28)
- Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath’ (James 1:19)
- Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29)
So that’s why voluntary vocal censorship is a must as evidenced by Psalm 141:3 which says “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.” Because we only have one mouth and it’s the same mouth we use it to speak life and healing (Proverbs 12 v 18), to command and possess authority over situations, to decree victory, to move our mountains and, to more often than not, defile ourselves (Mathhew 15 v 18). So this is why words as seeds and representatives of our minds and hearts are so important.
So I started to really soak in what God had spoke to me, and here’s what came to me. Make sure you comment cos I’m extremely interested to hear/read your thought on this!
So let’s cut to the chase, and get onto the 5 W’s of speaking out and sowing seeds:
1 & 2: WHY are you opening your mouth, WHAT purpose has been fulfilled?
I’ve met a lot of people, Christians and non-Christians alike who often confuse praising the works of God with blatant bragging. Celebrating God’s marvellous-ness is one thing, but bragging about what you’ve supposedly done for yourself, and even forgetting to cite the Author of you life is another thing. I’ve met many Kingdom braggers and it really gets my goat, because they sometimes brag about things that didn’t even bare good fruit. Humility shouldn’t be an art form but a life form.
Bragging about things that didn’t bare positive fruit is useless, it just means that you’ve possibly wasted your own time or there’s been a disconnect between the Visionary and vessel. You went here, did this, met that person yet nothing came of it, so why are you opening your mouth? If your end fruit is rotten before you even sow the initial seed, DON’T release words from your mouth to spread decay. Speak life, and be life!
Most importantly, don’t brag about what you did or even what God has done in your life if you’re not looking to sow a good seed with it. Don’t tell me what’s been done, but what you’re doing and what you’re going to do with it! Instead, tell me about the change you’ve made, the lives you impacted, the good fruit bearing seeds you’ve sowed, then we’ll have something to talk about! And if you haven’t made an impact yet, tell me what God’s placed on your heart, how He’s equipping you to take you to where you need to be.
Are you encouraging and uplifting your brothers and sisters or using the work of God to compete with others in the natural. I’ve got this job, that grade, that car etc? Rather than using your situation to confound unbelievers, and open their eyes to the presence of God in your life. Before you speak, think if what you’re gonna say will benefit the Kingdom. Will the flowering of your seed be a testament to the glory of God or simply an ego boost?
This is the first bit guys, stay tuned for the next 2 parts!
Spread the word, feed a spirit, encourage a soul 😀
